This two hour pre-recorded video will answer the question “ Do I need to complete the sensory profile as a precursor to sensory modulation interventions with adults ?” This will include:
- Tips for using the Sensory Profile, including when and how to use ( pre-requisite knowledge of the Sensory profile prior to this is assumed )
- Considering a sensory versus medical explanation for specific presentations
- Some examples to highlight ways of using Sensory Modulation.
Sensory Modulation strategies are very useful for practitioners in Mental Health including Occupational Therapists, Social Workers , Nurses, Psychologists and Psychiatrists. Sensory Modulation involves using sensory input to change the way that a person is feeling. This can include :
- calming or soothing sensory input
- grounding sensory input
- crisis kits and strategies
- turning down sensory input
- winding down for sleep

• Videos are presented by Carolyn Fitzgibbon and Julie O’Sullivan. Carolyn & Julie are two experienced OTs who have worked together for many years & share considerable knowledge and practical experience in the implementation of sensory modulation and sensory approaches, at both direct client and service development levels. Together Carolyn & Julie have conducted a number of webinars & workshops for mental health districts & on behalf of OT Australia regarding sensory modulation and the integration of sensory approaches into service delivery. Carolyn and Julie have co-authored the Sensory Modulation Resource Manual.
